Crohn’s Disease
Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory condition that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the anus. The inflammation is typically segmental, with “skip lesions” where areas of healthy intestine are interspersed between inflamed segments. The inflammation is transmural, involving the full thickness of the bowel wall, which increases the risk of complications such as strictures, fistulas, and abscesses.

Ulcerative Colitis
Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease confined to the colon and rectum. The inflammation is continuous without skipped areas, beginning in the rectum and potentially extending proximally. It is limited to the mucosal layer of the bowel wall, with main manifestations including mucosal ulceration, bleeding, and bloody diarrhea.
