CPET (Cardio-pulmonary Exercise Test) is special tool for practice tests to measure the performance of a person’s heart and lungs, also known called the VO2 test (oxygen consumption test). The higher the VO2 max, the more oxygen is consumed by the body and the more effectively the body generates energy. This is why VO2 max may indicate athletic performance.
You will be asked to:
- Undergo a clinical examination and consult a doctor
- Discuss the benefits and risks of testing
- Wear comfortable clothes during the examination because you will do physical activities on a treadmill or stationary bike
- No heavy meal for two hours before the test
- No alcohol for four hours before the test
- No strenuous exercise 30 minutes before the test
- Quit smoking at least one hour before undergoing the test
